General Gordon Hotel, Sydenham

Our client’s vision was to rebuild this iconic pub to respect the original fabric of the building & history and also create a vibrant venue for social & community interaction and entertainment

The historical narrative of the establishment was the inspiration for the concept design from the design elements, space planning all the way through to the material selection;

Charred timber bar fronts, timber wall paneling with historical quotes, abstract photographs of the devastated building after the fire form the artwork; the moulded ceilings design with woven brass panels for acoustic comfort and a crisp white pergola below the retractable awning.

The creative collaborations with lighting designers, landscape designers and local artists weaved their magic into this vibrant hub
