AVA IS CELEBRATING 30 YEARS IN ARCHITECTURE.
In 1994 architect Anthony Vavayis established his own practice. Working with his highly experienced team, Anthony Vavayis and Associates, has become an important provider in the health sector while working across a broad range of commercial and residential projects all over Australia.
With a proven track record, and capable of delivering a project from design concept through to implementation, AVA is known for providing high quality design outcomes with a practical understanding of construction and a high level of service. When delivering a high-rise residential tower to a smaller day hospital, the focus is always on the client. Combined with a rigorous design process this allows AVA to deliver projects of notable architectural merit.
Graduating in architecture from the University of New South Wales in 1988, Anthony was from the outset a fine designer, with an innate understanding of spaces and how they can be combined and integrally woven. Initially starting at a small one-person practice, Anthony expanded his experience to work with larger companies, including Bligh Robinson Architects(BVN). Later, at Leffler Simes Architects, he worked closely with the director in delivering the well-known Ritz Carlton in Double Bay and at Hedley Carr, Allen & Watts, his focus was on the health care sector.
Emerging from recession and given his experience and considerable network, AVA was formed to allow Anthony to create his own statement. He initially made a mark in the residential sector followed by retail and hospitality. While some practices tend to focus on one sector, AVA is capable in delivering a broad spectrum of projects, from small-scale through to large projects, including a 14-storey commercial building in Castlereagh Street, Sydney. Over the years AVA has delivered high rise in Townsville and a landmark 20 level student accommodation building on the North Terrace of Adelaide and a significant prviate hospital in Gledswood Hills.
The AVA ‘mantra’ has always been diversity, both in building typologies and sectors, and the associated scale and budget.
Large established organisations often engage AVA as they recognise our approach as dynamic and flexible, with the ability to comfortably complete large and complex projects. Offering a full service that starts with briefings, and a design phase through to gaining approvals, documentation and construction, it’s about working closely with each client until the ‘keys are handed over’.
